Man, what a year to be a fan of college football. If yesterday’s action didn’t get your blood a pumpin’, then somethings wrong! Five of the top ten teams lost…and several barely escaped with a win. And if you haven’t seen the AP poll for the Top 25 this week, then take notice. Kentucky is ranked 8th, and Florida is 9th. Yep, UK is ranked ahead of Florida in football. Has there been a better time to be a part of Big Blue Nation?
Kentucky just pulled out a win against Arkansas to put them at 4-0. Again, it was a nerve wrecking game. I think I’m going to drive Leslie crazy if there are many more games like this. Either that, or I’m going to go crazy trying to keep quiet because both lil’ bit and Leslie are in bed before the game is over. I could critique the game, but the bottom line is another win…so I’m just gonna enjoy it!!! All I have to say is this:
HD TV: $1000
HD Dish Receiver/DVR: $200
HD Programming: $20 + programming
Seeing UK win in HD: PRICELESS!!!!!!
OK, I’m tired of hearing about this guy who got tased (or tazed..whichever way you want to spell it) while at the John Kerry forum. I’m even more tired hearing people complain about cops using excessive force. Maybe I view these situations a little differently than most because I have one brother that is a state trooper and another that is a military police officer, but I have rarely seen a true case of excessive force. Let me explain a little.
First, the media makes the cop look like the bad person in these situations. Many times the person who received the force may have no criminal record, and they make sure to point that out. They also talk about that person’s family/work/schooling and everything good they have done. What they don’t mention, or even take into account, is that these cops are out there putting their lives on the line every day. Let me say that again so it sinks in. They put themselves in danger’s way and risk coming into a deadly encounter on a daily basis, so that we can live within a safe and governed society. These cops have lives, too. They have families that expect them to come home to supper every night just like any other person, and they have to take precautions to make sure that happens. If you give a cop a reason to use any force whatsoever, then I don’t think there is such a thing as excessive force. If you cooperate, then it’ll all go smoothly.
This student is a perfect example. When he was getting a little unruly and had used his alloted time, the police were just going to escort him out. When he started resisting is when the problem comes into play. Now the police need to get him out of there without further incident. They don’t know his history…they only know he is resisting them. Maybe he is psychotic. Maybe he has a weapon. Maybe his resistance could incite a riot. Maybe he could become even more physical and harm an officer. The officers don’t know the answer to those “maybe’s”. There are a lot of bad situations that could arise from what happened. The officers have a couple options. First, they could do what it takes to get him under control and out of there before the situation deteriorates. Second, they wait until the situation gets wore (perhaps an officer or bystander gets harmed or killed) and then use force to bring the situation under control. They chose the first case and tased him to bring him under control.
The bottom line that I’m trying to say is that these officers have to make a decision without knowing who a person is, having a manual to read, or having time to think things over. They make that decision based on the quickest and safest way to bring a situation under control. Could this person have been subdued without being tased? Probably. Did the police officers know that at the time? No! Had the person left without resisting would he have been arrested or tased? NO!!!!! So, who’s fault is it really? Before you pass your judgment in thinking the cops used excessive force, just remember they are only doing their job and wanting to get home to their families safely!!!

WOW!!!!! I just watched the Kentucky vs Louisville football game and my heart is still beating like there’s no tomorrow. I really hope Kentucky either wins by 30 points from now on, or loses by 30…because I’ll have a heart attack after a couple games like this one. In case you missed a game that could be considered one of the best games in the history of the UK vs UofL series (at least I think it was), Kentucky won 40-34. A lot of things can be taken from this game. But my main focus are on the following:
1. Kentucky is for real!!!
2. Louisville’s defense has improved, but it still has a long way to go.
3. Kentucky still has a lot of maturing to do.
The big thing I’m worried about is number 3 above. Kentucky had several opportunities to really pull ahead of Louisville and didn’t do it. They showed they are for real by scoring the touchdown on the final drive and winning the game, but they still have a lot of room to improve. If your a real Kentucky fan, the last play of the game took you back to 2002 against LSU and the Hail Mary that beat Kentucky. I have to admit…I was down on the floor biting my shirt and praying it didn’t happen again. Luckily it didn’t, and I was able to enjoy what was truly a magnificent game. I’m looking forward to what Kentucky can do in the SEC, and also hoping Louisville doesn’t let this get them down and goes on to a great season!
Well, reading an article about the new G.I. Joe movie has made me pretty upset. Apparently, GI Joe will no longer be A Real American Hero.
No longer will G.I. Joe be a U.S. Special Forces soldier, the “Real American Hero” who, in his glory days, single-handedly won World War II.
In the politically correct new millennium, G.I. Joe bears no resemblance to the original.
Paramount has confirmed that in the movie, the name G.I. Joe will become an acronym for “Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity” — an international, coed task force charged with defeating bad guys. It will no longer stand for government issued, as in issued by the American government.
From reading the article, Paramount doesn’t believe an American soldier can be heroic anymore.
The word is that in the current political climate, they’re afraid that a heroic U.S. soldier won’t fly.
If this is how the movie ends up, I will definitely not be watching it. It really bothers me that Americans are afraid to show pride in their country for fear that someone will not approve. Every soldier is heroic in my book. What kind of message does this send to our troops? Man, I really hate Hollywood!!!
