Well, there’s only a couple weeks left before the race and I am way behind on my training. It’s kind of hard to find time to get out and run in between my job, working around the house, in the yard, being a husband, and being a dad. Plus, I’ve been a little sick for the past week. I decided today, sick or not, that I was going to go out and do a full 3 miles. I used my car yesterday to plan out a full 3 mile route, so today I took to it. The end result was 3 miles in 30 minutes. Not good, but for someone who hasn’t run in 7+ years and just started again…I’m not going to complain. The problem, much to my surprise, wasn’t the cardio. Nope, the problem was my muscles. They tightened up like nothing I’ve ever felt before! That makes me happy, though. I think I can stretch a little better and get the muscles in shape for a race in a couple weeks much easier than I could the cardio aspect. I think my goal is going to be around the 25 minute range…we’ll see. That’s a pretty lofty goal for not running in so long.
A lot of UK fans started to panic as soon as we found out that Billy D was staying at Florida. I have to admit, I was one of them. A few names being tossed around scared me. The worst one being Tom Izzo…that would have been bad. When I first heard that Billy Gillispie was going to be the new head coach, I didn’t think it was a good thing. But that was before I looked at his resume and realized what he has done in the past. He made a name as a recruiter at Illinois. He got his coaching break with UTEP, and completely turned that team around. Then he moved on to Texas A&M, and turned them from a laughing stock in college basketball into a team that went to the Sweet 16…in 3 years!! The year before he started at Texas A&M, they did not win a game in the Big 12. I know a lot of fans wanted a big name coach…but wait a couple years, and Gillispie will prove that he is one of the best coaches in college basketball.
Another test for Chris.
Since I told Chris I would run a race with him last year, and completely fell through on it…I thought I would follow through this year since he asked me on his website. So, I have officially signed up for the Flying Pig 5k. You don’t have to go at it alone anymore, Chris! Unfortunately, I only have a month to get back into shape. This is going to be a challenge. I intended to get back into running, so the best way for me to get motivated was to just sign up for a race.
